Discord Guidelines

A lot of our communications happens on our private Discord server. To join it, you have to show up IRL at at least one of our meetups. We want to make sure that you show up – at least once.

Introduce yourself

✍️ Write a short, friendly intro that shows who you are.

🛍️ If you’re selling something, tell us what it is, why it’s awesome, and why we should grab it.

✨ Keep it clear, engaging, and let your personality shine.

🎤 This is your spotlight — make it count.

Use Your Real Name

We use Discord as our main hub for all communication. To foster trust and professional integrity, we ask every member to use their real first name. This helps build genuine connections, promotes accountability, and ensures we interact as both filmmakers and individuals. We do not allow made up usernames, we want to truly know who we’re talking to and make communication simple. You can easily change your username for our server only, so there’s really no excuse not to keep it real.

Profile Picture

We want members to recognize each other both on Discord and at our meetups, so we strongly recommend using a clear photo of your face. It helps break the ice, builds trust, and makes our community more personal. We understand you may be on other servers where you don’t feel comfortable showing your face this can be an exception just for our server. If you use Discord Nitro, you can even set a unique profile photo just for us.

Code of Conduct

We’re built on respectsupport, and a shared passion for filmmaking. Collaboration, open communication, and the free exchange of knowledge are at the heart of our community. This is a creative space where every voice and vision is valued.

To keep our community safe and welcoming, we follow a Code of Conduct that applies to everyone in our projects.

🚫 Unacceptable behaviour includes:

Harassment or hurtful language based on age, body size, caste, disability (visible or invisible), education, ethnicity, gender identity/expression, experience level, nationality, personal appearance, race, religion/beliefs, sex characteristics, sexual identity/orientation, skin colour, or socio-economic status.

Sexism, racism, colourism, homophobia, biphobia, interphobia, transphobia, antisemitism, Islamophobia, fascism, ageism, or ableism.

Acts of violence, inappropriate physical contact, or stalking.

Unwelcome attention (sexual or otherwise). This includes repeatedly contacting someone (messages, calls, etc.) after they disengage or show disinterest is considered harassment. Respect personal boundaries. Avoid excessive messaging, calling, or interaction when it is not reciprocated.

Pattern behavior: Repeated behavior, even if minor on its own, can be considered a violation when it creates discomfort or disrupts others.

Inappropriate use of nudity, sexual images, or depictions of violence.

Do not engage in prolonged personal conflicts. If an issue arises, report it to the team instead of escalating it publicly or privately.

We protect our creative space by holding each other to these standards—so everyone can focus on what we’re here to do: make great films together.

Cases of violation

🛡️ Safety & Support
We want every member to feel safe and supported. If you experience or witness unacceptable behavior, please report it to the Filmmakers & Movie Nerds team on Discord or via email.

We respect your privacy and will keep all reports confidential. Any violation of our Code of Conduct is taken seriously and handled promptly.

Escalation process

If you experience or witness unacceptable behavior, here's what to do:

1. Report it

Reach out to the team on Discord (DM a moderator or admin) or via email at action@filmmakersandmovienerds.com. All reports are kept confidential.

2. We review

The leadership team reviews every report within 48 hours. No case is too small.

3. We respond

Depending on the severity, actions may include:

  • A private conversation with the person involved

  • A formal warning

  • Temporary suspension from events or community spaces

  • Permanent removal from the community

We reserve the right to remove content that doesn’t meet our community standards. The leadership team may also revoke access to both online and in-person spaces without notice or refund if necessary.

Your safety matters. We've got your back.
